Founders Letter
Independence Day-July 4th 2026
Dear Friends,
Welcome to Common Ground Media.
If you're reading this, you're here at the very beginning, and for that, I'm grateful.
My name is Gary Paul.
For more than thirty years, I worked in and around the automotive industry. My job was to diagnose problems before they became catastrophic. Every day, I learned to trust something most people ignore:
Warning lights.
Warning lights don't exist to scare us.
They don't exist to annoy us.
And they certainly aren't there to be ignored or covered with a piece of duct tape.
They're there for one reason.
To tell us something needs our attention.
That lesson shaped the way I looked at the world long before I ever imagined creating a media company.
After more than three decades in the profession I loved, I lost my job. At the same time, my wife and I continued caring full-time for our 30-year-old daughter, who has developmental disabilities and lives at home with us. Those experiences changed the direction of my life and forced me to ask a difficult question:
If this chapter is over, what is the next one supposed to be?
The answer wasn't obvious at first.
So I started reading.
I studied American history.
I tried to better understand our Constitution, our institutions, and the responsibilities that come with citizenship.
I followed current events more closely and asked myself the same questions I used to ask when diagnosing a vehicle.
What am I looking at?
What does the evidence suggest?
What are the warning lights trying to tell us?
I know reasonable people can look at the same facts and reach different conclusions.
That has always been true in a free society.
Common Ground Media doesn't exist to demand agreement.
It exists because I believe our country benefits when more people understand how government works, ask thoughtful questions, examine evidence carefully, and hold those in positions of power accountable.
My analysis and opinions will sometimes challenge people. I don't expect everyone to agree with every conclusion I reach. But I do hope you'll always understand the standard I'm trying to live by:
Follow the evidence.
Be honest about what is known and what is opinion.
Correct mistakes.
Keep learning.
Treat people with dignity, even during disagreement.
Those principles matter more than any single news cycle.
Through Democracy Junkies, I'll examine the stories shaping our nation.
Through The Breaking News That's Breaking US, I'll explore why those stories matter and how they affect everyday Americans.
Through The Ground Crew Report, I'll go deeper, providing context, history, and analysis that doesn't always fit into a video.
Common Ground Media is my commitment to doing this work with integrity, independence, and respect for the audience.
